Edna M. Sajdak
February 23rd, 1931 - July 10th, 2022
Edna M. Sajdak, 91, a life-long resident of Amsterdam, NY passed away on July 10, 2022. Born in Amsterdam on February 23, 1931 to the late Michael and Frances (Shaulis) Mikenas, Edna attended St. Casimir’s Catholic Elementary School until the 6th grade. She then attended local public schools, graduating from Wilbur H. Lynch High School with the class of 1948. Edna attended Mildred Elley Secretarial School in Albany, and graduated with her Secretarial degree in 1949. On October 1, 1950 Edna was united in marriage to John J. Sajdak Jr. The couple shared 62 years together, until his passing in 2013. Edna was a homemaker, and also worked at several companies throughout her career, and retired from the Greater Amsterdam School District. Survivors include her four children, Cheryl (Gary) Minerley of Duanesburg, John (Marlene) Sajdak of Gloversville, Nancy Sajdak of Amsterdam, and Michael Sajdak of Myrtle Beach, SC; her three grandchildren, Travis (Rebecca) Minerley, Tyler (Ann Marie Gould) Minerley, and Adrian Pettit; as well as her three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Aside from her parents, Michael and Frances, and her husband, John, she is preceded in passing by her sister, Sophie Rusnica. Edna loved spending time in her gardens, where she grew flowers and vegetables. She also enjoyed travelling, square dancing, and reading. For many years, she served as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister at St. Casimir’s Church. She was also a member of the Rosary Sodality. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 from 4:00PM until 7:00PM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 14, 2022 at 11:00AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 39 St. John Street, Amsterdam, NY with the The Very Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis V.F. and Deacon Michael Ryba as celebrants. Interment will follow in St. Casimir’s Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to John. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the National Kidney Foundation, c/o Finance Department, 30 East 33rd St., New York, NY 10016.
