Edward Francis Barbano

Edward Francis Barbano, Sr., born on June 27, 1921 in Utica, NY, died on December 29, 2015 in Fairfax, VA of congestive heart failure. The youngest and last surviving child in a family of 11 children, the 94-year-old spent most of his adult life in the Washington, D.C. area. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and graduated from Syracuse University. He was a pharmaceutical representative and also worked as a public school teacher and as a federal civil servant. He was a long-time parishioner of Holy Redeemer Church in Kensington, MD where he was a lector and choir soloist. His marriage to Washington native Julia Rota lasted from 1947 until her death in 1988. He subsequently married Nancy Evans of Gaithersburg. Among his survivors are his children Angela Emerson (Stephen), Joseph Barbano (Paula), and Edward Barbano, Jr (Caroline); his grandchildren Matthew, William, and Katherine Barbano, and numerous nephews and nieces, including Marianne Barbano of San Diego, and Mary Elizabeth and Suzanne Tranquille of Utica. His viewing (10 a.m.) and funeral mass (11 a.m.) will be held on January 2 at Nativity Catholic Church in Burke, VA. Burial (1:30 p.m.) will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, MD. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association or a charity of your choice.
