Edward R. Bean
October 21st, 1907 - October 18th, 2008
BEAN, Edward R. 100, of St. Petersburg, died October 18th, three days from his 101st birthday. He was born in a one-room log cabin in Ridgway, IL, and moved to St. Petersburg in 1927. He was a graduate of a high school in Eldorado, IL. Ed was a veteran of the Coast Guard, having served from June 1942 until December 1945 as Chief Pharmacist Mate. His assignments were on a Destroyer Escort and a Landing Craft Infantry throughout the Pacific during World War II. As Chief Pharmacist Mate he was responsible for the health of the crew of the 12 LCI's in the Coast Guard Pacific Front. Much of his Coast Guard memorabilia has been donated to and is on display at the National Coast Guard Museum in St. Augustine, FL. He was employed at the Veterans Administration for 37 years in St. Petersburg. Ed was a proud member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He was an avid gardener and a devoted Rays fan. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Margaret. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Deborah B. and Paul S. Rowe; granddaughter, Heather R. Gipson and her husband Mel; sister, Wilma P. McDaniel; nieces, Aimee Dell Domeier, Ann Evans, Edna Earle Sims, Linda Ericson, and Anne McDaniel; nephews, Jerry Bean, David Bean, Edward Reid McDaniel, and John Sims; many great-nieces and nephews; and his beloved dachshund, Laney. We have been honored and blessed to have known this amazing man, and to have had him as a part of our lives. He shall be remembered and loved every day. Friends may call on Wednesday, October 22nd from 3-5pm and 6-8pm at Anderson-McQueen Funeral Home, 2201 Dr. M L King St. N. A funeral service will be held at St. Luke's United Methodist Church at 10am on Thursday, October 23rd. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations in Edward Bean's name to the SPCA Tampa Bay, 9099 130th Avenue North, Largo, FL 33773. Anderson-McQueen Funeral Home-N.E.
