"Palmer, Edward S. "Eddie Pete" Dragon, 92, of River St., died Thursday, May 21 at Wing Memorial Hospital. Born in Palmer, May 9, 1917, he was the son of the late Peter and Catherine (Armata) Dragon A lifelong resident of Palmer. Eddie Pete served his country during WWII in the Army and later worked for the former CF&I in Palmer for 27 years. After its closing, he worked at Lechmere department store. A communicant of Sts. Peter & Paul Church, he was also a member of St. Joe's Club and St. Mary's Club and had been King lion in the Palmer Lion's Club. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 46 years, Ida (Douty) Shorette Dragon, along with six surviving children, Gloria Robertson of W. Groton, Richard Shorette of S. Daytona, FL, Carolyn Sullivan of Somers, CT, John Shorette of Ware, George Shorette of Monson, and Robert Shorette of Sarasota, FL. He also leaves two sisters, Frances Kszepka and Ann Zieminski both of Three Rivers, along with 24 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Besides his parents, three children, Virginia Thursby, Eleanor Fowler and Leroy Shorette, Jr. preceded him in death, along with four sisters Emily Misterka, Mary Allen, Josie Wrona and Bridget Kmiecik. Calling hours will be Tuesday, May 26 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. atthe Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery. For those wishing, donations may be made in his memory to Palmer Lions Club.
