Edward Michael Hanley went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 23, 2022. He is survived by his wife Pamela P. Hanley, his siblings Eileen Birkenstock, Brigitte Kotten, and Timothy Hanley; his children; Edward Hanley, Brooke, and Megan, Jessica Anderson and Jeanetta Andrews and 19 grandchildren. Born in Brooklyn, NY on January 1, 1953, and later moved to Massapequa, NY, Ed served in the United States Marine Corp after high school from 1972 thru 1975 at the rank of Corporal and was a Vietnam Era Veteran. He was a patriot and loved his country. Ed loved playing sports and fishing was a favorite pastime since childhood. Ed had a wonderful sense of humor and was very well read and intelligent. Ed was married to Pam, his loving and devoted wife of 30 years, and they moved to Southwest Florida in 2011 from Northeast Florida where they met and married in 1992. He retired in 2015 and enjoyed fishing the beautiful gulf waters of the area, relaxing, reading, going to local restaurants, enjoying spending time with his wife and thoroughly enjoying the beauty of Southwest Florida. Ed also composed some short writings. PAM’S MAGIC MAPLE The late Autumn storm is a clarion call announcing Winter’s approach. Turbulent skies and brisk winds tease playfully with colorful treetops, scattering brilliant confetti to celebrate this seasonal game. One tree, however, stands quiet, reluctant to participate in the festivities. It demurs; motionless, as if in waiting or harboring a deep secret. Suddenly a new gust approaches this unwilling arbor and quickly ascends it; branches quivering, leaves shimmering in an otherwise grey sky. As the omniscient wind reaches ever upward the tree acquiesces and releases its’ treasure: dozens upon dozens of golden fairies spread silk-spun wings and explode into the still warm air. They dance and play, glistening jewels, until, as if on cue, the slow descent to soft warm earth, where they will winter until sun-drenched spring winds beckon them to the treetop again. By Ed Hanley His love of family and the Lord sustained him through his life. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father and brother. He is at peace with our Heavenly Father. He will be and is greatly missed.
