Edward Doty Walsh
May 9th, 1939 - July 26th, 2015
Lexington, Kentucky Edward Doty Walsh passed away quietly in the company of family on July 26 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Survived by his beloved wife, Mary Susan (Schneider); his sons, John Schneider Walsh (Anne Van Willigen) and Charles Edward Walsh (Margaret); his grandchildren, Elizabeth Jeannette and Mark Christopher. He is also survived by his sister, Julia Riester and her children. He is predeceased by his brother-in-law, Jack Riester. Born in LaGrange, Kentucky to John Thomas Walsh and Elizabeth (Doty) Walsh on May 9, 1939. He graduated from Trinity High School and University of Louisville. While attending University of Louisville he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order in good standing. He served in the Air National Guard as a sergeant during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Joining Abbott Laboratories as Territory Manager in Chicago, Illinois during the sixties, the call of the Blue Grass state was stronger than the pull of the Windy City eventually bringing him home to Lexington to a become a successful businessman as owner of Southland Spirits Fine Foods. In later years he became president of Ambassador Real Estate. He was an accomplished horseman and a lifelong lover of horse racing. Ed attended the Kentucky Derby over fifty times and was an active member of the Thoroughbred Club of America. An avid and world class handicapper, Ed was employed for many years at Keeneland Race Course. Ed Walsh was a friend to all and loved by many. Funeral Information Services: Visitation starting at 1:00 prior to Funeral Mass at 2:00 at the Cathedral of Christ the King 299 Colony Blvd, Lexington, KY 40502 on Friday, July 31.
