Edwina Catherine Underwood

Edwina "Eddie" Underwood passed peacefully on January 14, 2020 with her daughters at her side, and most of her family near her. She was born in Washington DC, March 15, 1935, the daughter of the late John and Nellie Shutters, brother Malcolm Shutters, and sister Marjorie Shutters Voitel both already passed. She leaves behind three children Gary M. Underwood Jr., Melody C. Underwood Ninantay, and Julianna M. Underwood O'Shields. She was "Nana" to Gary Underwood III, Christina Underwood Holmes, Jennifer Underwood, Alicia Coffey Urgell, David A. Coffey, Bryan W. Coffey, Sean M. O'Shields, Patrick R. O'Shields, Michelle O'Shields Boswell, Maricarmen Ninantay, Nathaly Ninantay, and Paul Ninantay. She was Great Grandmother to 17 children. She loved us all very much and we all remember the "Whoopings" we received when needed. We will miss her words of wisdom but will hold her love in our hearts. Eddie spent her childhood in Washington DC and the Shenandoah Valley where her family was from. Eddie was devoted to her family, but also loved gardening, hummingbirds, and her bowling. In 2018 Eddie was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame for her years of work and outstanding accomplishments in the bowling community. She bowled in many leagues and held secretary and treasurer positions in many of the leagues. She continued to bowl until this past year when she was too weak. Eddie was also a foster mom to many children over the years. Some of these have recently reached out to express their love for Nana which shows that she made an impact on their lives. Eddie had many friends that were very close for many years. She loved them all dearly. Whether you called her Mom, Nana, or Eddie, she was always there to lend an ear or a shoulder to cry on.
