Eileen Sue Rossman died April 5, 2014 after a 19 month battle with glioblastoma brain cancer. Born on March 10, 1950 in Enumclaw, WA, she was the first daughter for Richard and Teresa Rossman, joining brothers Dick and Roger on the dairy farm. She was soon joined by sisters Joan and Judy and David. She is survived by them and their families. (nieces Mary Jo and Kristin, nephew Joshua, and great nephews, Parker and Harrison brother in laws Ron and Art). Eileen grew up in Portland, OR, and after graduating from North Catholic High School she decided on nursing as a career, attending Emmanuel Nursing School in Portland. After graduating as a registered nurse she joined the Peace Corps. She landed in the Fiji Islands, which she truly loved, serving in a disabled children’s clinic and attending to the local Peace Corp volunteers. This ignited her love of travel, culture and enthic food, especially East Indian. Moving to Seattle WA in the late 1970’s she found a position as a nurse at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center working in patient care. She returned to Southern Oregon College to obtain her Bachelor of Nursing and then returned to the Hutch for the next 30 plus years of her life to work both inpatient and outpatient clinic. She found great satisfaction in her work and loved her co-workers and patients. She was working until her diagnosis in September 2012. Eileen leaves a legacy of service, generosity, friendship and commitment. She also was fun, loved her dogs, biking, book club, talking politics and cooking for others She is missed tremendously. A Memorial Mass will be Saturday, April 12, 2014 at St, Mary’s Catholic Church in Seattle at noon. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a favorite cause of Eileen’s like The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, the Ben and Catherne Ivy Brain Center in Seattle, or the Humane Society.
