E. Mathew Waro died at home September 14, 2013. He was born in Weirton, PA on September 26, 1922. In his early years, Mr. Waro served with the Navy in World War II, assigned to active destroyer escort duty in the North Atlantic and South Pacific theaters of U.S. naval operations. He was recalled to military service at the Pentagon during the Korean conflict. Shortly after he was honorably discharged from the Navy, he married Jeanne Durand of Brockton, MA. The couple spent most of their active lives as residents of Northern Virginia. When Mr. Waro retired in 1986, the couple moved to Cocoa Beach. They were married for 65 years preceding Mrs. Waro’s death in January of this year. Mr. Waro was employed by the former Westinghouse Corporation where he rapidly rose to managerial responsibilities. He managed and coordinated Westinghouse foreign supply operations in Spain, Iran, Ireland and China. Four children, Yvonne, James, Paul, and Michael, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren survive the couple. Their families live in Texas, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. A Mass will be held at Our Saviour Catholic Community Church, 5301 North Atlantic Avenue, Cocoa Beach at 10:30 AM Wednesday September 18, 2013. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors. The family asks that donations be made to Hospice of St. Francis, 1250-B Grumman Place, Titusville, FL 32780.
