Eleanor Gordon Gibb
June 3rd, 1936 - September 2nd, 2024
Eleanor Gordon Gibb, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away in Seminole, Florida, on September 2, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on June 3, 1936, Eleanor grew up in Somerville, MA, and carried her Boston accent and love for New England with her throughout her life.
Eleanor was predeceased by her husband Donald Charles Gibb. She leaves behind her four daughters: Christine Eldred (Charles) Abro of Saint Petersburg, Florida; Heather Anne Gibb of Southampton, MA; Donna Barr (William) Kerigan of Chicopee, MA; and Carole Gibb (Thomas) Spendley of LaGrangeville, NY. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Kendall (Rusty) Johnson; Joshua (Katie) Abro; Corey (Katelyn) Abro; Zachary Barr; Jacob Barr; Matthew Spendley; Rebecca Spendley; Nicholas Spendley; and Anna Spendley; as well as six great-grandchildren: Nathaniel and Madelyn Johnson; Weston and Estelle Abro; and Cameron and Luca Abro.
Above all else, Eleanor's unwavering faith in God was the foundation of her life. Her faith guided her through every season, shaping her values and the way she loved and cared for those around her.
For over four decades, Eleanor made her home in Wilbraham, Massachusetts, where she raised her family and became a familiar presence walking Main Street in all kinds of weather. She and her late husband, Donald Charles Gibb, were active members of the Wilbraham Country Club, where Eleanor was known for her participation in the 9-Holers. Together, they enjoyed many travel adventures with dear friends, from cruises to European vacations.
Eleanor’s family holds treasured memories of her annual lobster feasts, a beloved tradition that brought the family together each summer. She was a warm and giving grandmother and her grandchildren loved visiting the Wilbraham house to enjoy a trek along the brook or a visit to the local library. Her warmth, spirit, and dedication to her family will be deeply missed.
A private celebration of Eleanor’s life will be held later this fall. Eleanor’s memory will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
