Eleanor V Griego

Eleanor V. Griego peacefully passed away on July 7, 2014 surrounded by her family and friends. She was born June 12, 1943 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Eleanor was the eldest sister of five and had one older brother. She grew up in Martinez Town and attended St. Mary's Catholic school. After graduation in 1962, Eleanor attended Albuquerque Beauty College and enjoyed a 46 year career as a beautician. She followed in the footsteps of her father who was a barber. Eleanor was also a master seamstress and always made sure she looked her best. In 2009 Eleanor started the biggest battle of her life with cancer. She never let her illness stop her and always accepted the good and the bad with the utmost dignity and bravery. Eleanor loved going to the casino, long reminiscing talks with family and friends and being with her daughter and son-in-law. She was preceded in death by husband, Jerome Griego; brother, Henry Martinez; her sister, Yolanda Alderete; and parents, Lucy and Saloman Martinez. Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Joanna Gallegos and husband Victor; sisters, Lorraine Gomez and life partner Pat Cervantes, Lillian Saavedra and Julie Martinez. Eleanor was much loved and will be deeply missed by all of her family and friends. All services will be held at Queen of Heaven Parish, beginning with recitation of the Rosary on Friday, July 11, 2014 at 7:00 PM.
