Elizabeth Jean Connell (Betty) was born on July 24, 1940, in Sterling, Illinois. In 1948, her family moved to Arizona where she spent most of her life. Betty married Dennis Flanigan in 1957, and together they raised six children: Shawn (Lynn), Brian (Debbie), Jaime (Michele), Brad (Maureen), Bridget (Bill Hranek), and Patrick (Anna - fiancé).
Betty was a remarkably talented artist, known for her creativity and skill in various crafts and painting. Later in life, she became the owner and director of Chapparal Artists, leading a group of artisans who showcased and sold their work across Arizona and California.
Beyond her artistic pursuits, Betty was a devoted Christian, cherished mother, and beloved grandmother to 15 grandchildren and great-grandmother to 30 great-grandchildren. Her vibrant creative energy was both electrifying and rare, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Betty will be deeply missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made in Elizabeth’s name to St. Mary’s Food Bank and the Phoenix Rescue Mission.
