Elizabeth Baxter Hayes ?Betty? Betty, born August 1, 1923 in Charlotte, NC, the daughter of the late Herbert Hill Baxter and Catherine Virginia Littlejohn Baxter, died gracefully on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 2009. Her daughter, Virginia, sister, Lucie Dulin, and her nurse, Nilza were at her side. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hayes was preceded in death by her husband, Alan W. Hayes, son, Alan W. Hayes Jr. and a sister, Catherine Virginia Baxter. She is survived by three children, Herbert Baxter Hayes and his wife, Mary, Virginia (Ginor) W. Hayes and Robert G. Hayes III; grandchildren, Alan Martin Hayes and Elizabeth Kennedy Hayes; sister, Lucie Baxter Dulin; and a sister-in-law, Eleanor Barnhardt and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hayes was educated in the Charlotte school system and graduated with a business degree from Stephens College. She enjoyed a highly successful real estate career of over fifty-years. She founded Bissell-Hayes Realtors, along with H.C. ?Smokey? Bissell, and recently received the honor of ?Realtor Emeritus? from the National Association of Realtors. She was awarded the Silver Rose for Woman of the Year from The Charlotte Observer and Realtor of the Year by the Charlotte Regional Realtors Association. The family would like to thank the staff of Southminster Healthcare. A special thanks to Mrs. Hayes?s caregiver Rita Sims and her nurse Nilza Pappas for the loving care they gave their mother. Funeral services for Mrs. Hayes will be 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 30, 2009 at Covenant Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Robert W. Henderson officiating. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the Church following the funeral service. Internment will be private in Elmwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Albert Dulin, Paul Dulin, Robert Dulin, David Dulin, Sadler Barnhardt and James Barnhardt. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Alexander Youth Network, 6220 Thermal Road, Charlotte, NC 28211 or the charity of the donor?s choice.
