Obituary Elizabeth Louise "Betty" Richards passed into eternal life on January 4, 2014 at the age of 87 years old. Born to Stanley and Elizabeth Richards on April 6, 1926 in Salina, Kansas, she was named after her mother, but everyone called her Betty. A graduate of Kansas University in music education, she immediately began her teaching career in Kansas, continuing as an elementary music teacher in the Denver public schools until her retirement in 1977. She always had a zest for life, participating in community events with the YMCA, Rocky Mountain Nature Association, Chautauqua, United Methodist women, the "River Rats", travel excursions, camera clubs, and an aqua fitness group. Her days were always packed with activities with friends from operas and symphonies to craft fairs and hiking. She had a wide range of interests, cultivating hobbies of cross stitch, basket weaving, glass jewelry, graphoanalysis, working puzzles and wii bowling. She loved exploring and learning and traveling and making new friends. But most of all she will be remembered for her photography. Her photos captured her love for her family, her artistic eye for beauty and color, and her natural curiosity of the world all around her. The Betty Richards Invitational (our family's annual photo contest) is so named in her honor. She taught us how to live life to the fullest and will be dearly missed by her family. She is survived by her siblings: Ronald Richards of Lenexa, Kansas; Merilyn Abel (Cliff) of Estes Park; and Virginia King (Merv) of Martinsville, Virginia; also nieces and nephews: Linda Stoker (Bill); Larry Richards (Kathleen); LeAnne Trozan (Peter); Merl Abel (Dori); Cindy Edgerton (Steve); Dwight Abel (Kim); and Sherry Meador (Dave); as well as 12 grandnieces and nephews. Memorial gifts may be given to the First United Methodist Women in care of Vessey Funeral Service. A memorial service with be held at 11 am on Friday, January 17th at the chapel of First United Methodist Church.
