Elizabeth “Kay” Schumacher, nee Bonney, age 85, passed away in La Mesa, California on Wednesday, May 16, 2018. Born March 1, 1933, in Waco, Texas, to Elizabeth and Francis Bonney, she attended Austin College and received her B.A. and Masters at National University. Kay was recognized by National University as the first woman to graduate from this university. On April 25, 1953, she married Gordon “Bruce” Schumacher. She lived in many different places — including Texas, Florida, New Zealand , Arizona, California — she co-owned two business in San Diego, California with her husband, Plastic Graphic which was a high tech manufacture of bank ATM and & credit cards and Marriage & Family Counseling Center. Kay was an active member of the Presbyterian Church, she taught Sunday school for many years. She also started and led a neighborhood bible study for 10 years. Kay is survived by her five children: Amy Mingo (Paul), Skylar Mahal, Peter Schumacher (Michele), Stuart Schumacher and Julie Brenner (Joseph). She also leaves behind four grandchildren: Austin, Margot, Alec, Ashlee and her sister, Nancy Elchanan. Kay was predeceased by her husband, Bruce, daughter, Susan Schumacher and her granddaughter, Bridgette. Services will be held at on 11:30 a.m., Thursday, June 7, at the Miramar National Cemetery located at 5795 Nobel Drive, San Diego, California 92122 Relatives and friends are welcome at the service. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Alzheimer’s Association: Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Thanks to the staff and volunteers at Thrive Memory Care, Elmcroft of La Mesa, Vitas Hospice for their help and support.
