Ellen Lorraine James Packey, 88, of Anchorage, Alaska, passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, November 17, 2012 in Melbourne, Florida. She was born on June 17, 1924 to John and Ruth James in Williamstown, PA. In 1951, her husband's miltary career brought them to Anchorage, Alaska, residing there permanently in 1970. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Beta Sigma Phi a social sorority, the Anchorage Women's Club and the Anchorage Opera Guild (where she was awarded as volunteer of the decade). She also volunteered her time at the Brother of Francis Soup Kitchen in Anchorage for many years. Ellen was preceded in death by her husband Gale Packey and her daughter Sharon Gayle Montgomery. She is survived by her son Dr. David Packey and his wife Clare Marie Tomaselli of Satellite Beach; grandchildren Ethan Packey, Andrew Packey, Bridget Packey and Ted R. Montgomery and six great-grandchildren. A gathering will be held at Beach Funeral Home East on Wednesday, November 21 from 4 to 5 p.m. with a memorial service to begin at 5 p.m.
