Ellen Laniece Weiss

Ellen Laniece (Thomas) WEISS October 25, 1953 June 16, 2010 Ellen Weiss passed away June 16 after a 2-year battle with melanoma. She leaves behind her husband and partner of 30 years, John R. Weiss of Edmonds; her 108-year-old grandmother, Libby Draughon of Dallas; her mother Laniece Thomas; brother John Thomas; sisters Susan Good and Linda Thomas; aunt Mary Draughon; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Her father L.C. Tom Thomas predeceased her. Ellen considered Houston as her home town, and was an avid Girl Scout. She received her BS in Nursing at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, and joined the US Navy on graduation. After 5 years as a Navy Nurse, where she achieved the rank of Lieutenant and met her future husband, she pursued a 20-year career in Emergency and Trauma nursing at several hospitals throughout the US. She and John settled in Lake Forest Park 15 years ago. After a brief time as ER Charge Nurse at Stevens Hospital in Edmonds, she joined The Everett Clinic where she worked in their Urgent Care Clinics in Everett and Mill Creek for the past 13 years. Ellen enjoyed the symphony and modern dance. She was a passionate embroiderer and quilter, and shared her skills with several nieces. She was also a volunteer puppy raiser for Guide Dogs for the Blind, active in their Guide Puppies Seattle club. Funeral services will be private. Announcement: Memorial donations to Guide Dogs for the Blind, PO Box 3950, San Rafael, CA 94912-3950, will be greatly appreciated.
