Eloise Ruth Hunt Meredith was born August 3, 1923. She died November 3, 2015. She was the widow of the Reverend Henry Emerson Meredith and is survived by two children, Ruth and Peter, both of Albuquerque, and one sister, Isabel Creager of Santa Rosa California. Eloise graduated from Dallas High School in Dallas, Pennsylvania in June of 1941 as the class valedictorian. After she graduated from the Nesbitt School of Nursing, she joined the Army Nurse Corps and was posted to Woodrow Wilson Hospital, Staunton, Virginia. When World War II was over, she attended the University of Pennsylvania and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree. In 1949, she returned to her home in Pennsylvania and then moved with her parents to Tucson, Arizona. Eloise went to work for the Veterans Hospital in Tucson where she met her future husband, Henry Emerson Meredith. They were married on September 3, 1950. Following the marriage, the couple returned to the east coast where Henry Meredith graduated from Princeton Theological seminary. After his graduation, they returned to the southwest where Eloise gave birth to their two children, Ruth and Peter. Soon after their son Peter was born, the family moved to the Silver City area where both Eloise and Henry worked in the VA hospital at Fort Bayard. During this time, they bought an apple orchard on the Mimbres River near Silver City and raised cows, chickens, and ducks. Shortly before Henry's death in 1988, they sold the orchard and moved to Silver City. After her retirement from nursing, she volunteered for many organizations. She played the piano and sang in church choirs; she was also a needlewoman of outstanding ability, winning several awards and willingly teaching others to create many different items. Since her move to Albuquerque in 1997, she was active in Palo Duro Senior Center, employing these talents until quite recently. She participated in the Palo Duro Choralaires, a group which provided musical programs at various rest homes. As a member of a needlework group, Tuesday's Angels, she created handmade caps, baby blankets, afghans, lap robes, bibs and other things for various charities like The Linus Project. As a member of this group, Eloise received the Outstanding Volunteer of the Year award for the City of Albuquerque in 2013. Eloise lived a life full of Christian love and service. While living in Albuquerque, she was a member of Saint Thomas of Canterbury Episcopal Church and belonged to the DAR, Daughters of the King, and the Red Hat Society. Services will take place on Saturday, November 14, 2015, at 2:00 PM at St. Thomas of Canterbury 425 University Blvd. NE Reception to follow. No flowers please. Arrangements entrusted to Riverside Funeral Home of Albuquerque, 225 San Mateo Blvd. NE, (505) 764-9663.
