Elsie Osterman
May 20th, 1929 - February 4th, 2010
"Elsie Osterman, 80, of 61 Nipmuck Road, Palmer, MA died peacefully at home on February 4, 2010. Born on May 20, 1929, in Uxbridge MA, her parents were Vincent Frabotta and Antonietta (DeTiberiis) Frabotta. Educated in the Uxbridge Public Schools, she graduated from Simmons College, Boston, MA in 1952. Mrs. Osterman raised her family on Webster Lake in Webster MA before moving to Palmer in 1967. Mrs. Osterman was an accomplished journalist who began her 55 year career as a reporter for the Uxbridge Times. She also worked for the Woonsocket Call, Worcester Telegram, Turley Publications, and the Springfield Daily News. Mrs. Osterman held many positions over her journalism career including Bureau Chief and Editor. She is most remembered for her wit and insight as a columnist, sharing her opinions and humor on topics she valued most. Mrs. Osterman also advised and edited work for several authors and served as a literacy volunteer for the Palmer Public Library. Mrs. Osterman enjoyed traveling. A trip to Italy for a month in celebration of her 70th birthday included visits from all of her children and was one of her most cherished memories. Mrs. Osterman is survived by her 6 children; Vincent Osterman of Whitinsville, MA, Rebecca Campbell of Newburyport, MA, Ruth Osterman of Palmer, MA, Leah Osterman and her husband Dave King of Carlisle, MA, Mary Landolfi and her husband Joe of Acton, MA, and Martha Berry and her husband Mark of Monson, MA; a sister, Palmina Cawley of Shrewsbury, MA; 12 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. She is also survived by her former husband Ernest of Belchertown, MA. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, February 13 at 11:00 a.m. at the Second Congregational Church, 1080 Pleasant Street, Palmer, MA. Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. For those wishing, Mrs. Osterman's request was that donations be made in her memory to the Palmer Public Library, 1455 North Main Street, Palmer, MA 01069. "
