Elvira Pierson Vandeveire
September 16th, 1929 - April 21st, 2015
Elvira Pierson Vandeveire Passed away peacefully on April 21, 2015, after a long illness with Alzheimer's. Elvira was born on September 16, 1929 in Nogales, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents Florencio and Elvira Pierson, two sisters and four brothers, and her husband Harlan W. Vandeveire. She is survived by her brother Roberto Pierson, four children; Raymond, Anne (Copley), Mary and Renee (Sayre) and eleven grandchildren. After graduating from Nogales High School, she worked for seven years as a legal secretary and then came to Tucson where she attended the University of Arizona and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education, a Master of Education in Reading and a Master of Education in Bilingual Education. Elvira worked for the Sunnyside Unified School District at Liberty Elementary School and retired in 1992. She was an active parishioner at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, serving as member of the Church's Choir and Bible study group. She was a volunteer with the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and a Sun Sounds Tutor at Oasis, Henry and Dietz Elementary schools. Services will be held at St. Francis de Sales Church, starting with a Rosary at 9:30 AM and Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM. Additional details can be found at www.Bringfuneralhome.com.
