Emma Jean “Nanny” Cloud 93, of Church Hill passed from this life to her eternal home on May 11, 2018 following a lengthy illness. Emma was born on January 17, 1925 in Coeburn, Virginia to the late Maynard and Audrey Shoemaker. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth P. Cloud on March 7, 1978; daughter, Donna Ramey and son-in-law Richard Ramey; one brother; and three sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Evelyn Ellis (Rev. E. Lee); son, Rev. Bob Cloud (Jessie); five brothers, Kyle Shoemaker (Bertie), Nile Shoemaker (Kathern), Harold Shoemaker (Frances), C.L. Shoemaker (Linda), and Alvin Shoemaker (Jennifer); seven grandchildren; Eleven Great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; along with a host of friends, nieces, and nephews. Emma was a Christian and attended church faithfully as long as her health permitted. She also sang in the choir as well as singing solos. How Great Thou Art was her favorite song. The family will receive friends from 1 pm to 2 pm on Monday, May 14, 2018 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Church Hill. A celebration of life will follow with Rev. Bob Cloud and Rev. E. Lee Ellis officiating. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 am on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Oak Hill Memorial Park with Rev. Harold Shoemaker officiating. Pallbearers will be her brothers. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 am. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Church Hill Health Care for their loving care. In Lieu of flowers please consider a memorial contribution to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
