Enola Nielsen Enola Jean Kloster Nielsen died on August 9, 2017 at the age of 89. She was born to Paul Ray Kloster and Zella Vernon Kloster in Dexter, Oregon. Enola graduated from Springfield Union High School in 1945. Her first date with Carl Nielsen was a fishing trip to East Lake shortly after his return from the Army. They married on May 15, 1949 and enjoyed many fishing trips together during their 67 years of marriage, including 30 summers spent camping and fishing on the Siuslaw River. Enola lived in Junction City for 68 years until she and Carl moved to Solvang Independent Living in Eugene in 2007. Carl passed away on September 26, 2016. She was employed by Nordling Auto Parts and Eugene Hotel. She most recently retired as records secretary at Junction City High School in 1984. Enola and Carl led very active lives full of potlucks, dancing, camping, fishing, and family activities. They travelled extensively throughout Oregon, as well as to places like Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, Denmark, Norway, and the Panama Canal. Enola and Carl were both involved in the Scandinavian Festival since its inception. In 2002, they were awarded the Gale Fletchall Award for their strong and lasting contributions to the annual event. The Festival was one of Enola’s main passions in Junction City. She spent countless hours working in the information booth, the BPW booth, the Viking Sal Center, and was often seen baking aebleskiver at the Faith Lutheran Church booth. Always in costume, she enjoyed making and lending costumes, and always made sure to wear the costume she made for the first festival in 1961 at least once each year. Enola and Carl were longtime members of the Faith Lutheran Church. She was also an active member of the Junction City Business and Professional Women’s Club. She was involved in many of their activities, including the annual BPW Pet & Costume Parade, which has been in existence for over 50 years. She and Carl were honored for their volunteer work at the Junction City Historical Society. She also enjoyed photography, family genealogy, and Oregon history. Her ancestors came to Oregon on the Oregon Trail. Enola is survived by her three children Janice Nielsen, Don and Carol Nielsen, Gordon and Lisa Nielsen. She is also survived by her 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. A memorial celebration will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Junction City, Saturday, August 19, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers you could support: - Pitney House Museum - JC Education Together - Junction City Historical Society - Scandinavian Festival Association Arrangements entrusted to Murphy-Musgrove Funeral Home.
