Erica Marie Winkley was born on August 9, 1995 in Olympia, Washington at St. Peter Hospital to Rhonda and Daniel Winkley. Erica passed away on November 25, 2016 due to complications from the Lupus Disease at the University of Washington Medical Center. Erica is survived by her father, Daniel Winkley; mother, Rhonda Winkley; sisters, Danica Winkley and Jessica Armstrong; brother, Jerame Armstrong; beloved nephews, Mason and Jaxon Armstrong; her devoted girlfriend, Ashley Starke, and furry loves, Catch, Tonks and Jasper. Erica is the youngest of three sisters commonly and fondly named the “Ica Sisters.” Erica had the uncanny ability of being the “Watcher” in the Winkley Clan. Wherever she went and whoever she was with, you would always find her sitting there quietly absorbing all things around her—conversations, events, or just regular day to day adventures. She would soak in everything. It wasn’t as if she was judging, she was learning and understanding. She was a woman beyond her years. From the minute she was born, she captured the hearts of all who shared her time. It did not matter who was with her or what or when you were with her. Erica was all about being in the moment and enjoying life. One of the phrases that has been said over and over is she enjoyed “Just Being.” Erica enjoyed motocross, photography, fishing, playing video and board games, watching Netflix and Walking Dead, reading, writing, and music/singing. She especially enjoyed spending time with children, especially her two nephews, Mason and Jaxon. Erica also loved animals and had a special place in her heart for her animals, cats Jasper and Tonks and dog Catch. Erica’s strongest passion and love is reserved for her girlfriend, Ashley. They lived together in Olympia, Washington and spending time together was the most important activity whatever they were doing together—camping at Lake Cushman, spending time at the ocean beach, kayaking, fishing, or just hanging out. Erica graduated from Black Hills High School in 2013 and took several classes at South Sound Community College. She worked at Larson Hyundai and, to everyone’s surprise since she was not the talkative sort, enjoyed selling cars and was exceptionally good at this. From Mom: My beautiful baby girl Erica, go find the highest jump you can and fly! I will know that you will never be hurt again and that you will always be above, keeping an eye on all of us. You are and always will be my beautiful Angel! From Dad: I had the privilege of sharing so much time with my little “Curly.” From the many years of fast pitch and basketball to the weekends of racing motocross and watching her succeed in a sport where few women have. Her drive and competitive edge were never on display. You could see it in her big brown eyes and the final fist bump before she left the starting gate. Thank you for teaching me how to be a real father my sweet one! From Jessica: Forever and ever Deirfiur. From Dani: I’m so thankful to have been able to grow up with such a strong, fearless, and witty sister who inevitably taught me more than any parent, teacher, or mentor ever could. I have had the privilege, joy – and sometimes frustration – of sharing an extraordinary bond with Erica and will remember and continue all the adventures we’ve had and planned together. I will carry you with each milestone, every little moment and know you will be next to us as we attempt to stumble forward. I love you always, sissy.
