Erica Amati was born Erika Werner July 20th, 1939 in Siegelbach -- just northwest of the city of Kaiserslautern, in the heart of Germany's Rheinland-Pfalz. on. She was 77 when the Lord called her home at Weustoff Hospital, Rockledge, Fl on May 20th, 2017. All of her schooling was done in Germany. She was baptized in the “Evangelisch (Lutheran)” Church there. Growing up in post-war Germany, times were tough. Her father passed away when she was 7 and she lived with her mother, brother, and sister. Even family meals meant little to go around. She told of the time when there were only 3 meatballs for four people – her brother was going for a whole one before they split them up, she got mad and grabbed it before him and threw it up against the wall! After schooling she worked for the U.S. Army at an air Force Base. She was a telephone operator. She supplemented the family’s meals by trading sneaked phone calls after hours to the U.S. by the soldiers for steaks! Konni, her daughter was born in Germany, and after she moved to the U.S. (Maryland) in 1966. Konni returned to live in gErmany in 1982 but she would return for visits since most of her family still lives there. Joseph and Erika met through mutual friends and they married in Feb. of 1976. She worked as a property manager for apartment complexes. They moved to Viera in 1994 to Heron’s Landing subdivision. Actually, they bought the original model and were the “original house” but did not move in until one year later. Erika’s hobbies included gardening, cooking (not baking!); reading, Scrabble and watching T.V. – soaps and Steve Harvey Family Feud being favorites. Of course she enjoyed the family dog, Mickie, also. Her favorite restaurant was not the German ones but Amici’s – she got that from her husband! She is survived by her husband P. Joseph; her daughter (Konni and James) Zweifel of West Virginia; step-children, Diane (Drew) Sikorski of Maryland; Denise (Gary) Carpenter of W. Palm Beach Fl.; and Eric (Linda) Amati of Maryland. 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
