Ernest H Grenville

Ernest “Ernie” Grenville passed away on January 31, 2023 at the age of 86, in his home in Florida. His battle with medical issues in his recent years never diminished his love of good conversation including sports and politics along with visits with family and friends. Ernie was born to Elisa Grenville (Belisle) and Thomas Grenville in Niagara Falls, NY. Prior to his 32 years at Dunlop Tire Corporation as a Senior Manager of Distribution Centers, he graduated from LaSalle High School, attended Kent State University, University of Buffalo and was enlisted in the United States Army. He married the love of his life, Carol (Davenport) Grenville September 7, 1963. They lived in the Western NY area for most of their married life where they were active in their churches in Wilson and Lockport celebrating their Christian faith. He loved spending time with his family and friends. His pastimes included playing golf & cards, was an avid reader and collected coins. His passion, taking his grandchildren on yard excursions with the lawn tractor and green wagon. Ernie was also devoted to simply helping others, especially his daughters, whether it was a care package before a trip, a shoulder to lean on, an ear to listen, or a carefully crafted winter survival kit for the car, he looked out for his family, always. Ernie is predeceased by 2 brothers Thomas & Dennis Grenville and sister Lorraine Welsh. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Carol, daughters Caryn (Bernard) Shanahan, Stacey (Gregory) Potempa; his beloved grandchildren Bridget (Steve) Kneeland, Kyle (Cal) Shanahan, Michael Potempa, Morgan (Ethan) Duryea and Marc Potempa; 2 great-grandchildren, his siblings Theodore Grenville (Malone, NY), Madeline Reece (Youngstown, NY), Sandra Grenville (Alleghany, NY) and several cousins, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be at the convenience of the family with internment at Glenwood Cemetery in Lockport, NY. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to Family Church (Port Charlotte, FL), Salvation Army, or St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
