Erni Joseph McMullen

Erni Joseph McMullen died peacefully at home on February 3, 2024, following a long illness. Erni was born on February 21, 1951, in Hutchinson, Kansas to Chester A.and Mary Joy (Steimel) McMullen. He and his family moved to Colorado Springs in 1959. Erni graduated from Palmer High School in 1969. Shortly after graduating, Erni joined the US Navy where he was stationed in the Philippines and Morocco. After his discharge from the Navy, Erni began his career as a software engineer at TRW (later Northrop Grumman). He retired in 2009. Erni married Anne Marie Elbert in 1978. They had three children. Erni absolutely loved being a dad and later a Papa to his three granddaughters. Erni was preceded in death by his parents, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and two nephews, Jeremy Charles McMullen and Jason Charles McMullen. Erni is survived by his wife, Anne; his children, Jared (Michelle) McMullen, Brian (Lindsay Johnson) McMullen and Erin (Sven) Schmelzer; and three granddaughters, Mia Johnson and Keira and Tatjana Schmelzer; siblings, Charles (Cindy) McMullen, Patrick (Karin) McMullen, Nancy (Jim) Crossey, Donna McMullen, and Dan (Judi) McMullen. At Erni's request, there will not be a funeral. Graveside Service, 11:00AM, Wednesday, February 21, 2024, Pikes Peak National Cemetery, 10545 Drennan Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80925. The family would like to thank Abode Home Hospice for the outstanding care and support they gave to all of us in the nearly three years of his illness.
