Ethel Jones

Ethel Jane Vedder Fields Jones, 93, of Country Highway 106, passed away Monday evening at the River Ridge Living Center in Amsterdam. Born September 29, 1918 in Amsterdam, New York she was the daughter of the late William and Nettie Thompson Vedder. She was a graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School Class of 1935 and the Amsterdam School of Commerce in 1936. Ethel was first employed as a key punch operator for the Mohawk Carpet Mills of Amsterdam she then was employed as a secretary for the H&P Glove Shop in Johnstown. In 1939 Ethel worked for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company as an insurance sales person in Arbor Hill, Albany and was transferred to the Amsterdam area her last 2 years until retiring from the insurance field in 1969. She was last employed as a real estate associate for 19 years for Coldwell Banker, Arlene M. Sitterly, Inc. in Johnstown until retiring in 1995. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Broadalbin, former member of the D.A.R. in Amsterdam Chapter and a former member of the Fulton County Board of Realtors. Ethel first husband was William Fields who died in 1977 and her second husband James Jones passed away in 1992. Survivors include several cousins and wonderful friends Judith Frederick, Helen Bernard and Linda Stangle. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 11, 2012 at 11:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church, West Main Street, Broadalbin with the Rev. Linda Martin officiating. Burial will take place in Green Hill Cemetery in Amsterdam. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 5 to 7 pm at the Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home, 85 West Main Street, Broadalbin.
