Eugene Gilbert Agnes

Eugene (Gene) Gilbert Agnes Sr. was called home on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at the age of 84. The memorial service for him will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 1:00pm at God's House Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico (NM). Eugene was born in Albuquerque on May 29, 1935. He graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1954 and then continued on to the University of New Mexico. There he completed his Bachelor's degree in Science in 1981, his Master's in Art in 1988, and his licensure to practice therapy (bilingual) in 1995. He also earned his doctorate in Psychology, Counseling, Management and Theology from Trinity Theological Seminary (Trinity Bible College) in 1995. Gene was married to Linda S. (Govan) Agnes on March 7, 1970 at Faith Temple in Tucson, Arizona. He worked as a U.S. District Court Bailiff (NM) (1968-1978), a Probation Officer Assistant for the U.S. District Court (NM) (1978-1981), a U.S. Probation Officer for the U.S. District Court (NM)(1981-1987), and a U.S. Pretial Services Officer for the U.S. District Court (NM) (1987-1997) with the special distinction of being the first Pretrial Services Officer for the district of NM. He then relocated to Moriarty, NM and worked for Torrance County Counseling as a Mental Health Therapist (1997-2016) before retiring. Eugene also worked as a high school referee for basketball and football under the New Mexico Athletic Association (1955-1993), as an umpire for high school baseball (1955-1973), and as an official for the National Basketball Association (1970-1973). Eugene was a counselor in both Christian and secular capacities for over 40 years. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents - Angilo Agnes and Anita Agnes-Reese, his brother - Alfred Franklin Agnes, and his sister - Vera Ann Madison-Pouncil. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, his seven children – Cheryl Y. Agnes-Russey, Eugene Gilbert Agnes II, Jayne Michelle Cunningham, Daryl K. Agnes Sr., Cynthia D. Agnes-Renfro, D'Mitri R. Agnes, and Chequille M. Agnes; 15 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a multitude of family and friends.
