Eugene L. Barnard
December 4th, 1923 - October 19th, 2013
Eugene LeRoy (Gene) Barnard, 89, of Middleton, died at his home of natural causes on October 19th 2013 with his loving wife at his side. Gene was born on December 4, 1923 in Pocatello, ID to Eugene and Rose Marie (Meese) Barnard. He served as a U.S. Marine Sgt. From 1943 to 1946 in WWII as an ordnance specialist. He married Carrol T. Howell in Pocatello, ID and was later sealed to Carrol and his family in the Idaho Falls Temple in 1963. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America for many years. He loved to hunt, fish and camp with his family. Gene is survived by his wife; Carrol, children; Steve (Marilyn) Barnard of Tacoma, WA., Arla (Dave) Farmer of Middleton, ID., Mark ( Denise) Barnard of Boise, ID., Eugene (Susan) Barnard of Simi Valley, CA., and Ross (Tammy) Barnard of Cooper City , FL. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ed and sisters Grace and Cleo. The family wishes to thank Horizon Home Health and Hospice and his hospice nurse, Shawna for the excellent care and comfort in Gene’s last months. Gene was a quiet, stoic man who shared his deep testimony of the gospel with his family by example, by his love and by his teachings. He was a wonderful husband and father and loved by his family. He took great joy in his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Viewing will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013 from 5:00-8:00 PM at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. Viewing will also be held at 9:30 -10:15 AM on Thursday, Oct 24, 2013 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 22500 Lansing Lane, Middleton, ID. Eugene’s Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM the same day at the Church. Interment will follow at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, Boise, ID.
