EUGENE E. BIRD Eugene "Papa Gene" Bird was born Dec. 26 1920 in San Francisco, Calif. to Lorenza and Eddie Bird. He passed away July 5, 2015 in Magalia, Calif. at the age of 94. Gene met and married Alfreda G. Clark in 1941. They moved from Alaska to Butte County in 1952 where they raised two children together. Gene was very involved in his community, coaching Chico East Side Little League from 1953 to 1979, and was inducted into the Chico Sports Hall of Fame in 1988. He retired from the CSU maintenance department after 21 years, was Master Mason, and recently received his 50 year pin from the Shriners. Gene is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years; son, Dennis Bird, and his brother, Richard Bird. He leaves behind his son, Michael Bird and sister, Annette Schmidt. As well as 4 grandkids, and 7 great -grandkids. Private graveside service will be held Fri. July 10, at Glen Oaks Memorial park.
