Obituary for Eugene J Hoying Friday, September 23, 2022 Eugene J. Hoying, 92, died peacefully at home in Sun City Center, Fl. September 23, 2022. Before moving to Sun City Center, Fl, he lived in Montgomery & Huntsville, TX, Highland Park, IL, and Cincinnati, OH. He is survived by his wife, Patricia L. Hoying of Sun City Center. Eugene was one of eleven children born to the late Henry and Anna (Schmitmeyer) Hoying and raised on the family farm near St. Patrick, Ohio. Upon graduation in 1948 from Fort Loramie High School in Ohio, Mr. Hoying attended the University of Dayton, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry in 1952. After the University of Dayton, he served as a U.S. Army hospital corpsman at Fort Leonard Wood hospital in Missouri from 1952-54. Following military service, he earned a Master of Science degree in Biochemistry from Purdue, University, West Lafayette, IN. In his professional life, he started as a chemist at Proctor & Gamble in Cincinnati, OH. Believing he was more than a chemist led to his sales career in the flavor and fragrance field, first with Givaudan (a Swiss multinational manufacturer of flavors, fragrances, and cosmetic ingredients). Retiring from Givaudan, he continued his sales career with International Flavors & Fragrances, and Food Materials Corp. Mr. Hoying was proud that he and his six brothers served in the various United States Armed Forces branches in World War II and Korea. He appreciated his large German Catholic family and looked forward to the annual Hoying Reunions. Always a big kidder and jokester at the August reunions near the family farm in Ohio, Uncle Gene will be missed by all his "favorite" nieces and nephews and their families. Eugene Hoying was preceded in death by his former wife, Elizabeth C. Hoying (nee Decurtins), his ten siblings and nine of their spouses, Regina and Clem Aselage, Anna Marie and Greg Eilerman, Louise and Alfred Boerger, Edwin and Annabel Hoying, Bernadette and Paul Gaier, Henry Hoying, Jerry and Mary Hoying, Anthony and Mary Hoying, Linus and Mary Hoying, and Patrick and Patricia Hoying. He is survived by his two children, Andrew D. Hoying (fiancée Moira Burdi), of Wheeling, IL, and Faith R. Behr (Michael J.) of Naperville, IL; the beloved grandfather of four grandchildren, Travis A. Hoying (Allison Kirby) of Prospect Heights IL, Katherine L. Behr of Austin, TX, Derek A. Hoying of Wheeling, IL, and Madeleine A. Behr of Chicago; always had a big grin when called "Triple G" (Great-Grandpa Gene) for his two great-grandchildren, Calvin H. Kirby-Hoying and Warren M. Kirby-Hoying; a stepson Michael Pizer of Baton Rouge, LA; and his sister-in-law Nancy Hoying of Evanston, IL. Graveside services and burial will be at Sarasota National Cemetery on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at 12:30p.m. In place of flowers, the family requests making memorial donations to the Mercy Home for Boys and Girls, https://donate.mercyhome.org, a charity Eugene Hoying supported for decades.
