Arlene Adams, 93,beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother of Chico, California passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 8, 2020. She was born Eva Arlene Weber in Burwell, Nebraska in 1926 to Roe Emery Weber and Doris Laurel Williams Weber. Arlene grew up in a farming family in rural Nebraska and graduated from Burwell High School in 1944. After graduation, she worked at a local bank. She married Eugene Leo Franssen in 1947 following his return home from WWII Naval service. After beginning their family in Burwell, Arlene and Eugene moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1957 and settled in Hayward, California where they raised their five children. Arlene worked for Kay and Zales Jewelers in Hayward and San Leandro, and retired in 1985. Eugene died in 1977. Arlene later met and married Victor Edward Adams in 1980. Together they built a home near Smartsville, California, and retired there in 1985. Following Victor's passing in 1990, Arlene made the move to Chico to be closer to family. In 2001 she married Nordahl "Mickey" Hausauer. She and Mickey enjoyed attending community senior dances, camping, and being with friends and family. Anyone who met Arlene was touched by her gentle kindness, and she made lifelong friends wherever she went. She was a fantastic cook, especially at holidays and large family gatherings. Each person who sat at her table felt loved and appreciated. It was common to have extra unexpected people at the table, and she made them all feel welcome. She passed down recipes and traditions that are being carried on by the family. She was the quiet matriarch of a large family and led them with love and devotion. She was a great mom and mother-in-law who especially loved her grandkids (Jennifer, Lauren, Marc, Andrew, Sara, Matthew, Jonathan, Kristian, and Elizabeth). She was thrilled when great-grandchildren came along (Michael, Peter, Dan, Eleanor, Leah and Abigail). Arlene learned to love nature from an early age, and the lessons of the farm never left her. She enjoyed watching the quail and deer outside her windows in Smartsville and gardening at her home in Chico. Her favorite poem was "Trees," by Joyce Kilmer. She was a wonderful dancer, and particularly enjoyed ballroom and square dancing. She also loved to sit outdoors and watch the grandkids' sporting events. Predeceased by an infant son, Donald Lee Franssen, in 1954, she is survived by her husband, Mickey Hausauer. She is also survived by children Micheal Eugene (Gail) Franssen, Patricia Arlene (Mike) Silva, Sandra Sue Montero, Kathleen Kay Nee, and Scott Lee (Cathy) Franssen; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Arlene attended Our Divine Savior Catholic Church in Chico, and her final resting place will be with Eugene Franssen at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward, California. Due to coronavirus restrictions, a memorial service will be held at a later date. Special thanks to the staff at Prestige Assisted Living, who cared for Arlene with great kindness for the final twenty months of her life.
