Evelyn Anna Brown
January 26th, 1913 - December 19th, 2009
Evelyn Anna Brown, 96, of Gloversville, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 19, 2009 surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 26, 1913 in Chilson Hill Ticonderoga, NY, the daughter of the late Leland and Malvina Greenwood Cheney. On August 15, 1968, Evelyn married the love of her life, Robert W. Brown. They enjoyed many wonderful years together until his passing on August 7, 2002. Evelyn loved shopping and crocheting. A woman of great faith, she read her bible everyday and her Christian faith was very important to her. Everybody loved Evelyn. She was known as "Grandma Brown" or "Ma" to just about everyone she came in contact with and they all enjoyed her wonderful sense of humor and caring ways. She was involved in the Fresh Air Fund, where children from New York City come upstate for a few weeks in the summer and enjoy the outdoors here. Evelyn was happiest with a house full of children and her family was first and foremost in her life. She was a very special lady and she will be very sadly missed. Survivors include eight daughters: Malvina Ward Carl of Mayfield, Orletta LaVada John of Mayfield, Sharon Fosmire of Gloversville, Linda Sweet Joe of Mayfield, Rene Manzer of Gloversville, Valorie VanAvery Nelson of Fultonville, Sally Bates Michael of Mayfield and Velice Decker Lew of Gloversville; a son, Michael Palmer Pam of Wells; several cherished grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; daughter in law, Phyllis Ropeter; sister-in-law, Lillian Hayner of Johnstown; brother-in-law Alfred Brown and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her beloved husband Robert, Evelyn was predeceased by her first husband, Floyd B. Ropeter, Sr., a son, Floyd B."Sonny" Ropeter, Jr.; two grandchildren: Joshua Manzer and Dale Ward; three brothers: Leland Cheney, Antwine Cheney and Richard Cheney; four sisters: Virginia Grovenburgh, Julia Clark, Hazel Cheney and Hazel Cope and two sons-in-law: Edward Manzer and Richard Fosmire. Friends and family are invited and may call Tuesday, December 22 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 23 at 10 a.m. with the Reverend Dr. R.W. Williams presiding. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made in Evelyn's memory to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave, Gloversville, NY 12078.
