Jim and Evelyn Echtermeyer Obituary After 66 years of marriage, Evelyn May Echtermeyer, 86, and James Richard Echtermeyer, 90, peacefully passed away two weeks apart of each other. Evelyn passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2023, and Jim on January 13, 2024. A joint memorial service at Fort Logan National Cemetery will be held at a date to be determined. Evelyn was born on February 11, 1937, to Charles and Mary “May” Walker in Benton Harbor, Michigan. She graduated from St. John’s Catholic High School in 1954 and was united in marriage to Jim on December 28, 1957, in Benton Harbor Michigan. After their marriage, Jim’s banking career took them to Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota, Idaho, and Colorado. Jim’s last job was in Cañon City, CO where they retired and lived 26 years before moving to Arvada, CO in 2022. In addition to caring for her home and family, Evelyn was involved in her church and various community and women’s groups, and was an accomplished seamstress, but loved most to be outdoors and play golf with Jim. Jim was born on December 22, 1933, to Herb and Melania Echtermeyer in Omaha, NE. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1951 and went on to earn a BS degree from the University of Wyoming, where he played football and is a member of the Wyoming Sports Hall of Fame along with his 1959 teammates. Jim served his country in the US Army from March 1955 through March 1957, and was a bank president or executive for nearly 40 years, including having worked for the Resolution Trust Corporation. Jim enjoyed being outdoors with Evelyn while golfing, camping, boating, hunting, and fishing. Grateful for having shared in Jim and Evelyn’s lives are their five children, three grandchildren, and three great grandchildren: Jim (Julie) Echtermeyer of Arvada, CO and their son Tom (Kristin) Echtermeyer and their son Griffin and daughter Mabel, Arvada, CO; Emma (Tim) White and their son Grayson, Melbourne, Australia; David Echtermeyer, Colorado Springs, CO; Andy Echtermeyer (Mary), Hot Springs, SD; Matthew (Wendy) Echtermeyer and their son Corbin, Broomfield, CO; and Amy Echtermeyer, Pueblo, CO, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Jim and Evelyn were preceded in death by Jim’s brother Don and sister Janet, Evelyn’s sister Charlotte, and their son Matthew. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jim and Evelyn’s honor may be directed to St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 1016 Mystic Ave, Cañon City, CO, 81212. Expressions of sympathy may be extended to the family through Aspen Mortuary.
