January 23rd, 1918 - August 2nd, 2010
Mrs. Evelyn Irwin Johnson, (Eve to her friends) age 92, a long-time Glen Street resident of Edmonds, WA, quietly passed away on Monday morning, August 2, 2010. Her Rosary will be held at Becks Funeral Home, with Al Hendricks officiating on August 10, 2010 at 7 p.m. Her Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in downtown Edmonds on Wednesday, August 11 at 11 a.m. Very Rev. Kenneth Haydock officiating. Public is invited. Evelyn lived a varied and exciting life; she was a founding member of the National Alliance of Families for the Return of Americas Missing Servicemen in 1994 of Bellevue, WA. She appeared on KIRO News interviewed by Mark Sauter on behalf of our Soldiers Missing in Action and her beloved husband Sergeant Lewis W. Sowles, 2nd Infantry Division, still MIA from the Korean War. She was loved and enjoyed by her family, especially her sons, Bill and David; daughters, Nancy and Gloria; grandchildren: Dhana and Ron, Bill Sowles, Jr., A.I.A., Robyn, Patricia, Diana and Patricia Jones. Her great-grandchildren: Ronnie, Matthew, Ryan, Trevin, Taylor and Kaitlyn; and her first great-great-grandson, Trace. Evelyn was a high-fashion designer, graduating from the California School of Fine Arts at UCB; Army Wife; Columnist for the Coronado Journal; Producer for the Coronado Playhouse; Fashion model for the Del Coronado Hotel; Police Woman in the Juvenal Division and Real Estate Land Developer and Apartment buildings owner. At age 12, Eve designed the logo for her fathers company, National Motor Bearing Co., of Redwood City, CA, which is still used today by the parent company, Federal Mogul Corp. Her most proud achievement was being a wonderful and fantastic mother, grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Entombment will be at Alta Mesa Cemetery in Palo Alto, CA, next to her parents, Lloyd A. and Anna Johnson and her brother, PFC Lloyd Johnson, Jr., killed in the Battle of the Bulge in France in 1944.
