Evelyn Ruth Maurer

April 2nd, 1917 - April 30th, 2012

Evelyn Ruth Maurer Evelyn was born with a twin sister on April 2, 1917 to Ray and Elizabeth Brush Swigert in their home at Roswell, Idaho. Upon the death of Elizabeth, 5 days after their birth, Ray enlisted the help of his brother George and his wife Flora (uncle George and Auntie) who raised the two girls. Evelyn graduated from Wilder High School in 1935 and had plans of attending nursing school, but Ed swept her off her feet and they were married on Nov. 16, 1935. Ed and Evelyn spent the next 71 years on the fruit farm. Evelyn was a devoted wife, mother and caregiver to her Auntie. She loved her home and little red cabin and was a great decorator. She was active in her children's activities as they grew as well as in the community and church. She loved to sew making many costumes and party dresses, as well as Linda's wedding gown. In 1945 she and some girlfriends started a sewing club. They rotated homes every month taking their kids and hand sewing, and spent the afternoon visiting. The club lasted about 65 years. Evelyn was a member of the Wilder Methodist Church, UMW and was also a Rebekah and received her 50 year pin. Evelyn's hobbies were sewing, reading, knitting, hand work, and canning. Her favorite thing was to be with her family and her friends and playing pinochle and bridge. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters Ruth and Helen. Surviving are: son and wife Darrell and Mary Maurer, Wilder, daughter and husband Larry and Linda Simmons, Boise, 4 grandchildren Robert and Randall Maurer, Laurel Fritz, and Chris Simmons, and 9 great grandchildren.
