Evelyne Julia Cheslock
November 10th, 1941 - September 23rd, 2024
Evelyne “Ev” Cheslock, 82, of St. Petersburg, FL, passed away Monday, September 23, 2024. Born Nov. 10, 1941, Evelyne spent the first half of her life in her hometown of New Haven, CT, and nearby Branford, before moving to St. Petersburg in 1992. Evelyne was preceded in death by her father Michael E. Cheslock, Sr., and mother Eva (Zuikas) Cheslock, both of North Haven, CT; and two brothers: Michael “Ches” Cheslock, Jr., of Bellows Falls, VT, and Charles “Chuck” Cheslock, of New Haven, CT; and many well-loved cats. She is survived by two daughters: Suzanne Huertas and her husband Wil, of St. Petersburg, FL, and Jody McGovern and her husband Thomas, of Branford, CT; a son: Donald Ullerup and his wife Julia, of Odessa, FL; two sisters: Cynthia Caliendo, of Fort Mill, SC, and Eileen Heinig and her husband Walt of Ormond Beach, FL; two granddaughters: Alyssa Surette and her husband Kyle, of Gold Canyon, Arizona, and Selena Huertas, of St. Petersburg, FL;a grandson: Jovahn Huertas and his wife Nicole, of Forest Hills, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
Evelyne loved hot coffee, cold Sprite, and anything sweet. A voracious reader, she tore through anything with a scandalous mystery to solve and a tough, clever, wisecracking sleuth to do the solving. She brought light to her community through her musical contributions to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church choir; her leadership in the Associates of the Sisters of Bon Secours; her lifelong contributions to charitable causes supporting animal welfare, children’s health, and education; and her maniacally loud support at countless soccer games and marching band performances. But most of all, she was a survivor who fought ceaselessly in the face of many challenges to ensure the best possible life for her children and grandchildren.
A viewing and visitation for Evelyne will be held Monday, Sept. 30, 2024, from 6pm-8pm at Anderson McQueen Funeral Homes in St. Petersburg. A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2024, from 11am-12pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pinellas Park, FL, with a reception immediately to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift in support of SPCA Tampa Bay.
