Famous Owen Wade
October 7th, 1919 - July 10th, 2017
Famous Owen Wade was born in Forrest City Arkansas, the firstborn son of Samuel Wade and Lillie Bunton. He attended Dunbar High School in Little Rock Arkansas. In 1942 he joined the Army and served as one of the last Buffalo Soldiers. In 1944 he married the love of his life, Medric Garwood, with whom he had three daughters. Over his 22 years of military service he and his family traveled throughout the U.S. and Europe. Following his retirement from the military in 1962, he moved to Seaside, California and began work at Soledad Correctional Facility. While employed full-time at Soledad, he earned an AA degree at Monterey Peninsula College, a BA in Sociology at San Jose State University. He went on the complete all the course work for the Masters Degree in Sociology at San Jose State University. He eventually retired as a Program Administrator at Soledad in December 1982 He continued to be active in social and service organizations on the Monterey Peninsula following his retirement. Famous was a founding member of The Group, and an active member of Seaside Rotary. He served as a volunteer and on the Board of Directors for Meals on Wheels of the Monterey Peninsula. He was the adored Patriarch of a family dispersed around the world: Vancouver and Montreal Canada; Brussels, Belgium; Sonoma and San Francisco California; Boston, Massachusetts; New York and Washington, D.C. Summers and Christmases have brought this family together to enjoy his love and wisdom. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Medric Wade, his daughter, Martcia Wade; his brother Johnnie Wade, and his sister, Thelma Wade. He is survived by his brother Herman Wade (Little Rock Arkansas), daughters Dr. Cheryl Wade (Sonoma, California), and Sandra Wade Pauly (Vancouver, BC); his sons-in-law Dr. Daniel Pauly (Vancouver, BC) and Dr. Greg Eyring (Silver Spring, MD) , and five grandchildren: Ilya Pauly, Angela Pauly, Annijke Wade, Katherine Eyring , and Benjamin Eyring. Private burial services will be held at the Monterey Cemetery. A Memorial Celebration will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at the Center for Spiritual Awakening, 522 Central Avenue, Pacific Grove. Please RSVP to Bermudez Family at 831-32-0404.
