Fern Gunter Thorpe

Ms Fern Gunter Thorpe, 81, of Greensboro, died Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Moses Cone Hospital. Funeral services will be held 2 pm Thursday at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home with the Reverend Dave Lindeman officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Gardens. Ms Thorpe was born in Guilford County August 23, 1932 to James and Vera Stanton Gunter. She worked with Blue Bell, Wrangler Corporation for over 25 years, as a data administrator and key punch operator. Fern took early retirement and bought a beach home. Family was very important to Fern. Fern loved to work in her yard, planting flowers and growing vegetables. Her pets were a major influence in her life, the giving and receiving love and compassion. She was an avid sports fan. She followed the Washington Redskins and Atlanta Braves for over 40 years. The Carolina Panthers became her new team. Ms Thorpe is survived by her sons, James A Thorpe and Van W. Thorpe; grandsons, Ben Thorpe and Michael Thorpe; sisters, Gale Carroll, and Betty Vaughn; brothers, James Earl Gunter and Dewey Gunter. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 pm Thursday, prior to the service and a lunch reception immediately following the service at the Funeral Home.
