Ferris "Skip" Joseph Young

April 15th, 1921 - April 10th, 2012

Skip was born April 15, 1921 to Joseph and Abra Young in Kaycee, Wyoming. Skip went to be with the Lord Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at home in Homedale, Idaho. In 1939 he graduated from Homedale High School, lettering in track, baseball, football, and was especially good at basketball. He was a good boxer, and an exceptional athlete. After high school he served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Black Cat 13th Armored Division. He would only talk about the good times, telling funny stories of war. After the war he returned to Homedale and was involved in several businesses. He also worked as a surveyor for the forest service. Skip also worked for the Gem Irrigation District for 27 years - (when you saw only a cloud of dust flying down a ditch bank; that was Skip in his company truck. In 27 years he only put two trucks in the water.) In 1955 he married Jimmie Tolbert. They were married until Jimmie's departure to God in 1994. Skip and Jimmie Young owned and operated several businesses in Homedale throughout the 50's, 60's, and 70's. They had two sons: Ron Hooker, Sr. and Ramon Hooker. In 1996 he married Donna Goodloe and they were married until his passing. Skip and Donna Young were a blessing for each other, and made each other feel "Young" again. They enjoyed life together, and spent a lot of time at 'the cabin' in Bear, ID. Up until age 86 - before he became ill; Skip was snowmobiling, riding four wheelers, landscaping, hiking, hitching trailers, and still driving very fast wherever he went. Skip was a beloved friend to many, with a continuous selfless attitude; while forever helping others. He showed undying devotion and unconditional love to all his family members throughout his entire life. He was an outstanding Husband, Father, Grandpa, and Granddad and if he didn't have anything nice to say about someone; he wouldn't say anything at all. Skip was forever an exceptionally, courteous and gentle person. He was an excellent shot and an avid bird hunter for many years. He taught his Grandson (Ron) to shoot, hunt, and drive; he loved every minute of it. He also showed relentless commitment to Wrestling and Judo and never missed a single match. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Homedale. Skip was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Jimmie Tolbert, as well as two sons, Ron Hooker Sr. and Ramon Hooker. He is survived by his wife Donna, son Tracy (Diana) Goodloe, grandsons Ron (Jill) Hooker Jr. and Marshall Goodloe, granddaughter Sarah Goodloe and four great-granddaughters Peyton Boyer, Jade Hooker, Zoe Hooker and Landon Hooker. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 13, 2012 at Mountain View Church of the Nazarene at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Marsing-Homedale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Owyhee County Judo at Zion Bank in Homedale, ID. Condolences to the family may be made online at www.flahifffuneralchapel.com. Service Information

Dear Donna: Deepest synpathy to you and your family. I have many memories of Ferris in school, especially racing back and forth on the basketball court. I think he and I are the last members of the class of '39 graduating class. Faye Jones

Victor Brisbin

We are sorry to here of Skip's passing, and send our sincerest sympathies to the Hooker family. I have good memories of his solid support of Boise Valley Judo's tournaments and events. It was evident that he had great love for his family. Blessings for all of you, and best of success, Ron, with your efforts to continue to build the spirit of judo, which Skip exemplified by his service to others. Donna: My brother, George Houston Call thought so much of you and Skip. I know he would be there to tell you himself if he were still with us. I had forgotten how Skip drove until now. My thoughts are with you and your family. God Bless you all. Joyce
