Florence "Susie" West Howard Fowler of Sharon Village Retirement Community, in Charlotte, NC, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, May 20, 2015. She was 88 years old. Born September 9, 1926, in Pink Hill, NC, Florence was the daughter of John Thornton Howard and Maude Westbrook Howard, both of whom preceded her in death, along with her brother, Daniel Mosley Howard. Florence was the wife of Neal Clifford Fowler, who preceded her in death after 22 loving years of marriage. She is survived by her brother Mitchell B. Howard, Sr. of Mt. Olive, NC, along with numerous nieces and nephews all of whom loved her very much. Florence was a founding member of Chalmers Presbyterian Church (ARP), an employee of Transport Clearing and Presbyterian Hospital, an avid collector of Beanie Babies, a traveler, a lover of books, and an active participant of life. Known as "The Hat Lady," she was a well-known and loved figure of her community. Funeral services for Florence will be held Sunday, May 24, 2015 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
