Frances Langr Perrone
March 3rd, 1912 - February 14th, 2013
Frances Barbara Langr Perrone died Thursday, February 14, 2013. She was born in New York City on March 3, 1912 to Frank and Antonie Masek Langr. Her parents had each emigrated from Bohemia around the turn of the century, met and married in New York City. Their names are on the rolls at Ellis Island. When she was about two years old, she and her older siblings, Frank who was born in 1906 and Edith who was born in 1908, moved with their parents to a farm in the upstate hamlet of Osborne Bridge on the Sacandaga River in the Adirondack foothills. Three more siblings were born there; Martha in 1915, Helen in 1920, and George in 1927. Fran attended the one-room schoolhouse in Osborne Bridge and the high school in Northville. In 1929, when Osborne Bridge and the surrounding communities were evacuated for the construction of the Sacandaga Reservoir, now the Great Sacandaga Lake, her family moved to Almond Street in Gloversville where Fran completed her senior year and graduated from Gloversville High School. She advanced her education by graduating from Broadalbin Normal School for teacher training. Fran and her husband Ernest Perrone, who was a local real estate broker, were married for 48 years before he died in 1984. Fran celebrated her 100th birthday last March 3 and enjoyed this marvelous milestone with her neighbors, family, friends, and those who worked and cared for her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Perrone; three brothers: Frank Langr, Bohemiel Langr who died in infancy, and George Langr; three sisters: Edith Langr Morlock, Martha Langr Scribner, and Helen Langr Weeks. Surviving are: a treasured sister-in-law, Dorothea Bens Langr, upon whom Fran depended throughout the years; four generations of nieces and nephews who adored and dearly appreciated her. Her nephew, Tim Scribner, was her primary caregiver for the past three and a half years. He had assistance in this care from Marcia Sandford and Rachel Lobdell from Simply the Best Home Care, and most recently from Mountain Valley Hospice. Fran also was blessed with caring neighbors who, along with her caregivers and relatives, brought her comfort, assistance and interest in life. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on May 4th at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. R. W. Williams officiating. Spring interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Northville. In lieu of flowers memorials in her name may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078.
