Francis Denell Matthews

Francis Denell Matthews 1/1/1966 to 2/3/2024 Francis Matthews, 58, of Summerville, SC passed away peacefully, Saturday February 3, 2024, surrounded by his family. Francis had been hospitalized since late September. Francis faced his lengthy illness with courage and strength. He was born in Timmonsville, SC to LeGrand and Claudia Levone Matthews, on January 1, 1966. Francis was the sixth of seven children. As a young child he moved to Summerville where he remained for the rest of his life. Francis worked for thirty plus years in the garage door business. During that time, he developed a good relationship with customers and contractors. They continued to call on him during his long illness because they knew and trusted him. Francis was married to Tammie for 26 years. They had two children, Reanna (32) and Aaron (25). He was a good husband and father who loved his family and supported them at all times. Francis was a big Clemson fan and enjoyed watching the games with his brothers. He enjoyed listening to talk radio, going for drives and good food. In fact, Francis loved tasty food so much, that a few weeks prior to his final hospitalization, he and Tammie drove to Savannah, GA to eat at Carey Hilliard’s. He was the best at finding “hole in the wall” restaurants that may not have looked appealing, but their food was delicious. On January 24, 2011, when his first grandson Karson was born, Francis found his lifes purpose; to be a Papaw! Then on January 15, 2014, he welcomed his second grandson Keegan. He had such a special relationship with his boys. He took them with him everywhere and often. He loved them so much and they loved him just as much. Francis was greeted in heaven by his stepdaughter Amber, his nephew Taylor, his niece Chloe, his parents, grandparents, and many other family members and friends. His beloved dog Bob was also waiting for him. He is survived by his wife Tammie, his daughter Reanna, his son Aaron, his grandsons Karson and Keegan, his brothers Ronnie (Kris), Jerry, James, Kevin (Christine), his sisters Rita and Lynn (David) as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Francis was an incredibly special man who will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 11am on Saturday February 10, 2024 at Summerville Family Worship Center 407 N Magnolia St, Summerville SC.
