Frank Arthur Batman
November 10th, 1921 - July 27th, 2014
Frank Arthur "Art” Batman, 92, of Pierce, CO passed away on July 27, 2014 at his home. He was born November 10, 1921 in Ault, CO to Frank Arthur and Susie (Tormey) Batman. Art grew up in Pierce and graduated from Pierce High School. After graduation he attended Colorado State Teachers College now UNC. During WWll he enlisted in the Navy, serving as a radar operator on naval aircraft at various locations in the South Pacific. Later he was a radar instructor at Corpus Christi, Texas. While in Texas he met Mary Lou Grindle who was also in the Navy as a yeoman working in the radar tower. They married at her family home in Copan, Oklahoma on December 24, 1945. After being honorably discharged from the service in 1946, Art worked on the family farm until 1965. In 1965 he became the manager of the Pierce Grain Elevator and Feed Store. He held this position until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, people, sports and traveling. Art also volunteered for numerous Weld County organizations, including Hospice, RSVP, and Pierce-Weld County Senior Citizens. He also served on the board for the Weld County Senior Citizens and Senior Nutrition. He was named to the Weld County Senior Hall of Fame in 1995. Art was a charter member of Brown-Foster American Legion Post #188 and was an 82 year member of the First United Methodist Church of Pierce. Art was recently honored as a Quiet Disciple from the Methodist Peaks and Plains Council. The real joy of his life though was his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Art is survived by his wife, Mary Lou of Pierce; children, Gail (Jeanne) Batman of Copperas Cove, TX, Geery (John) Cordova of Pierce, Carmen Batman of San Diego, CA, and Richard Batman of Ault; brother Larry (Shirley) Batman of Greeley; brother-in-law Rex Eutsler of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Joel A. (Ronda) Cordova, Jason L. (Katie) Cordova, Gary A. (Louise) Batman, Gregory C. (Melinda) Batman and Jillann Small; great- grandchildren, Jaron Cordova, Jasynda Cordova, Kyler Cordova, Mya Cordova, Arynn Cordova, Lily Batman, Noah Batman, Trey Small, and Jaden Small; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, BC Batman; sisters, Marie Jones, Helen Williams, Alta Lacy, Evelyn Geib, Nonie Horning, Glynnellen Grogan, Doris Kerbs, and Matilda Draper; and great- grand daughter Morgan Cordova. One of Art’s last requests was for his body to be donated to science through the Anatomical Board of the State of Colorado. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at First United Methodist Church, 429 3rd Street, Pierce, CO 80650. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to "Pierce First United Methodist Church” or "Pierce Senior Center” in care of Adamson Funeral & Cremation Services, 2000 47th Avenue, Greeley, CO 80634.
