Frank Bishop
October 25th, 1940 - February 18th, 2014
Garry Franklin "Frank” Bishop, 73, of Greeley passed away February 18, 2014, after a two year battle with leukemia. Frank was born October 25, 1940 in Danville, IL to Max Leo and Helena (Cramer) Bishop. He was raised in Dana, IN farming with his parents and four siblings. He graduated from Dana High School in 1958. In 1960 he married Wandalene Haga in the Dana Methodist Church. He and Wanda moved to Bloomington, IN, where he worked for the Burroughs Corporation, and then for the Monroe County State Bank, as an operations manager and Vice President. While he worked in the computer field, he was always interested in police work, serving on a volunteer police department while they lived in Bloomington. In 1977, he and his family moved to Greeley, where he became a police officer for the City of Greeley. He served in many capacities on the police force – he was a patrol officer, a detective, SWAT team member, and prior to his retirement in 2001, he coordinated the communication technology for the department. After his retirement from the City of Greeley, he ran a local tow truck company, retiring from it in 2003. He enjoyed many hobbies, including repairing and riding Cushman scooters, hunting, shooting, and building airplanes. He had a great love of flying and private aircraft, having received his private pilot’s license in 1967. He could be found every Saturday, and then full time after his retirement, at the Greeley Airport, working on his home-built airplanes. He built numerous planes with his fellow pilots and friends, and enjoyed flying family and friends over Colorado. Frank is survived by his wife of 53 years, Wanda; his two daughters and sons-in law, Jennifer and Derek Yancey, Platteville, CO and Cheryl and Jim Estrick, Greeley; and six grand children - Jacob and Emily Lieser, and their son Noah, Kyle and Silvia Lieser, and their daughter Olivia, Ryan Estrick, Kelsey Estrick, Jordan Yancey, and Sydney Yancey. Also survived by his sister, Sue (Gary) Marshall; and brother, Kevin (Anita) Bishop, all of Dana, IN and many nieces and nephews. Frank spent a great deal of time with his grandchildren and he leaves behind great memories for his family. He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marcia; and a brother, Ron.
