Frank Heimbaugh, 90, passed away in Sun City Center, Florida on January 10, 2009 after battling cancer. Frank was born in Akron, Ohio in 1918. He served as an officer in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. After the war, he continued his studies at the University of Akron, where he received a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Frank worked as a buyer for the B. F. Goodrich Tire Company in Akron for many years until his retirement. Frank was very fond of sailing. While pursuing his career, he and his wife Marilyn built a summer home at Ohio's Atwood Lake to enjoy their sailboat and lakeside view. They later expanded their cottage into a home where they could both retire. Every 4th of July, Frank and Marilyn hosted a family reunion, complete with fireworks, at their Atwood home. Frank and Marilyn spent many years dividing their retirement between Atwood Lake and their winter home in Florida. Growing weary of the bi-annual trek between Ohio and Florida, they eventually settled full-time in Bradenton and later in Sun City Center, Florida. Frank enjoyed card games, especially bridge. He also enjoyed golf, but it was a game with which he struggled. Frank is preceded in his death by his father Frank Heimbaugh, Sr., his mother Ethel Heimbaugh, and his sister Harriette Wetsel. He is survived by his wife Marilyn Heimbaugh, sons Charles and Kenneth Heimbaugh, stepsons James and Clifford Thompson, daughters-in-law Rebecca Heimbaugh, Rebecca Thompson, and Virginia Thompson, and many grandchildren and a great grandchild. Services will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2009, 2:00 P.M. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 701 Valley Forge Blvd., Sun City Center, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society or Redeemer Lutheran Church would be appreciated.
