Frank L. Vertucci

Mr. Frank L. Vertucci, 98, of Gloversville, passed away August 2, 2012 at Nathan Littauer Hospital with his family by his side. Born May 1, 1914 in Gloversville, he was the son of the late Domenick and Clara Nicolella Vertucci. Frank graduated from Gloversville High School where he excelled in football and baseball. He continued his education at Clarkson College and Columbia University. Early in life, Frank was employed by B.F. Goodrich, General Electric Co. and the Navy Depot in Yonkers, NY. In 1945, Frank began his own glove manufacturing business as Modern Gloves in Gloversville, which became Vertucci Gloves, continuously run until recent years. Frank was a well respected handball player, playing twice a week well into his 80's, often competing with much younger players. His memberships include Holy Spirit Church, past-president of the Rotary Club, 30 year member of the former Elks Lodge, and a 75 year member and trustee of the YMCA. He was also a member of the Eccentric Club and Pine Brook Golf Club. He had an instrumental role in the formation of the Gloversville Little League and was an active contract negotiator for the Fulton County Glove Manufacturers. Survivors include a daughter; Clara Biscotti James of Gloversville, a son; Domenic Vertucci Debra of Las Vegas, Nevada. He is also survived by a brother; Edward Vertucci of Amsterdam, six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and a sister-in-law Janice Vertucci. Frank was pre-deceased by his wife Rose Auricchio Vertucci in 1979, a sister Mary Zambri, his brothers; Armand Vertucci and Albert Vertucci, and a grandson Steven Van Brocklin. A Memorial Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am Monday, August 6, 2012 at The Church of The Holy Spirit, 149 S. Main Street, Gloversville. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to the church or to the YMCA, 213 Harrison Street, Gloversville, NY 12078.
