Franklin S. Nauman

The Rev. Dr. Franklin S. Nauman went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Sun City Center, FL on November 17, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents Franklin S. and Elizabeth Nauman and by his daughter Elizabeth C. Wikander. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Shirley Masker Nauman of Sun City Center; son Layton Paul Nauman and wife Jennifer Nauman of Lake Worth, FL; son Stratton D. Nauman of Valrico, FL; son-in-law Eric Wikander of LaVergne, TN; daughter-in-law Sally J. Nauman of Tampa, FL; grandchildren Stephen, Shelby, Sarah, and Savanna Nauman and Rachel Wikander; brother and sister-in-law Daniel and Gail Nauman of Denver, PA; eight nieces and nephews; and his cousin Ronald and Linda Riley of Stroudsburg, PA. Frank was born in Philadelphia, PA on March 2, 1930 and was educated in the public schools of Haverford, PA and at the University of Pennsylvania. He earned graduate degrees in Divinity at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and Butler University and a Doctor of Science of Theology degree at San Francisco Theological Seminary in 1980. He began preaching in 1954 and served congregations in Washington, D.C.; Elmont, NY; Southport Presbyterian in Indianapolis, IN; Erin Presbyterian in Knoxville, TN; Goodyear Heights Presbyterian in Akron, OH; and St. Andrew Presbyterian in Sun City Center, FL. Since his retirement in 1997, Frank served as a Parish Associate at Hyde Park Presbyterian Church and as an interim and pulpit supply minister for the Tampa Bay Presbytery. He was active in the South Shore Kiwanis, as past president; the Men's Club of Sun City Center, as chaplain; the Hearing Loss Association; the South Bay Genealogy Society, as past president; and on the board of the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay. In 2008, some of Frank's sermons and stories were published in the book Fingerprints of God: His Hand in History and Human Hearts. On September 13, 2015, he was honored by Goodyear Heights Presbyterian Church during their Centennial Celebration and on October 18, 2015 he preached his final sermon at St. Andrew Presbyterian. When told that he had touched many lives for Christ, he said, "No, I have been blessed by those in my churches who have touched my life for Christ." A Memorial Service will be held at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Sun City Center, Florida on Sunday, November 22, 2015, at 1pm with Rev. Dr. Mark E. Salmon and Frank's best friend Rev. Robert Bradbury, officiating. Memorial Gifts in Frank's name may be given to St. Andrew Presbyterian Church of Sun City Center, South Shore Kiwanis, or Life Path Hospice.
