Fred Moore

Fred W. Moore, 90, of Littleton, Colorado, passed away peacefully at home on June 3, 2024.

Fred was born on February 15, 1934, to Carmon and Bernice in Bay City, Michigan. After Fred graduated from Central High School in 1952, he went on to study science at the University of Michigan.

After graduating with a degree in chemistry, he started his first job at Dow Chemical, moving to Climax Molybdenum in 1960, working as a research chemist. Fred also earned a Master’s of Science degree from Eastern Michigan University in inorganic chemistry. He was world renowned in molybdenum smoke suppressants for fabric and plastics. An author of many articles, he was also known to speak on and review literature related to his research. In 1981, Fred was honored with  the Excellence in Industrial Chemical Research. Adding to his many professional accomplishments, Fred was awarded eleven patents for his research.

In 1958, Fred met JoAnne in Bay City, Michigan, marrying in 1960. Fred and JoAnne went on to have two children, Carole (Jerry Vettrus) and Simone (John Karr.) Fred was loved by three grandchildren, Samantha (David Salazar), Jessica and Jeremy. 

In December of 1992, Fred retired and spent his time reading, taking pictures and traveling with JoAnne through all fifty states and 19 countries.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Donald and Gerald. He is survived by his brother Thomas and extended family in Michigan.

Services were held at Living Savior Lutheran Church in Littleton, Colorado, on June 8, 2024. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Living Savior’s Little Lambs Playground Project. Fred loved to “thumbs up” the children at Living Savior and high five them whenever he could, long after he lost his ability to converse.
