Fred D. Perna

Fred D. Perna, age 83, of Johnstown, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville. He was born April 30, 1937 in Gloversville, the son of Louis and Mary Perrella Perna. He was a graduate of Gloversville High School and served his country in the US Army National Guard. He was later employed as owner/operator of School House Leather. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed horse shows with his daughter Debbie, golf with his son’s Tony and David, vacations with his wife Mary and made it a point to never miss any of his grandchildren’s events. Fred is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary L. Rhodes Perna of Johnstown; two children, Anthony Perna (Diane) and Deborah Viscosi (John) of Johnstown; six grandchildren, Zachary Viscosi, Julia Viscosi, Anthony "AJ" Perna, Caitlin Clark, Gabe Perna and Lucia Perna (Lucia’s mother Eugenia David’s wife, who has been a second daughter to Fred.), six great-grandchildren; four siblings, Donald Perna, Linda Cook, Raymond Perna and Robert Perna; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Fred was predeceased by a son, David Michael Perna in 2010; a grandson, Jason Perna; eight siblings, Virginia Perna, Pat Perna, Richard Perna, Connie Putnam, Theresa Piazza, Louis Perna, David Perna and Adora Ort. Due to the current Covid-19 Pandemic, private visitation and a Mass of Christian Burial will take place at the convenience and safety of the family at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 151 S. Main St; Gloversville. The service will be recorded by the family to be offered virtually at a later time. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Fort Johnson.
